An Unexpected Delight with Working From Home

I work from home with my new position, unless co-location is required for certain meetings. This is a bit of a concern for me, being somewhat isolated from human to human connection. I have my 2 cats so there is life in the house (if you call sleeping most of the day away in a sunbeam life), but their conversation skills are highly lacking.

What I definitely do enjoy working from home is the fact that there is a walking path practically outside my door that goes around a little pond (or slough – depending if you are city or country folk). This path continues along with a strip of green on one side and a field on the other. Typically I measure the success of my walks by the number of dogs I get to meet and pet along the way but today I was struck by a most pleasant surprise… a smell of childhood.

In the field was a swather,  beginning to make ready for harvest. The smell of freshly cut wheat awakened my senses and brought a very warm smile to my heart as memories of my childhood flooded in. Riding in the tractor with Dad or the grain trucks with my MUCH older brothers and going out with Mom to bring meals to the fields to feed the men. Something so simple as everyday hard labour for farmers, something so endearing many years later to me, relieving those memories through the eyes of my childhood.

May your day today bring you a little surprise that brings a warm smile to your own heart and perhaps, as an extra bonus, a reason to reach out and reconnect to share the joy.

With love,

Glenna
